This year, students at MAST Academy took to the stage with energy, talent, and dedication in their production of “Mamma Mia!” The show continued a beloved school tradition of annual musical performances. Following last year’s production of “Mean Girls: The Musical,” the 2026 show delivered a vibrant and memorable experience for audiences across three nights.
Held on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, each performance showcased the full production, from lively musical numbers to carefully choreographed scenes, demonstrating the hard work of both the cast and crew. Parents, students, teachers, and faculty filled the audience each night, creating an atmosphere of excitement and support.
The musical challenged performers to balance strong vocals, acting, and choreography. Behind the scenes, the crew worked just as hard to ensure smooth transitions, lighting, sound, and set design, all of which contributed to the show’s success.
Junior Rut Moran, a member of the stage crew, said the work was physically demanding. “We spent long hours after school painting, our skin and clothes getting covered in paint,” Moran said.
For many students, the production was more than just a performance; it was the result of months of rehearsals, collaboration, and commitment. From late night practices to final dress rehearsals, the cast and crew dedicated countless hours to bringing the story to life.
“When we were building and painting the sets, it was chaos. But good chaos,” said junior Sarah Palacios. “It was stressful and scary but also fun. Everyone shared laughs and conversations, like a true team.”
The final performance on Friday night carried special significance as it marked closing night. As is tradition at MAST Academy, senior members of the cast and crew took the stage after the show to deliver heartfelt speeches reflecting on their experiences.
These speeches highlighted not only the growth of the students as performers and leaders but also the strong sense of community built through the theater program. Emotions ran high as seniors expressed gratitude to their peers and mentors.
The production of “Mamma Mia!” once again demonstrated the creativity and dedication of the MAST Academy performing arts club. With another successful musical in the books, anticipation is already building for what next year’s show will bring.
