College season is a stressful time for seniors at MAST Academy.Since students at MAST Academy have the opportunity to receive the Cambridge diploma, most students graduate with bright futures ahead. This allows for a paid college tuition to any public college in Florida. Many Florida applications are due on November 1st, if action is taken immediately afterwards.
A senior at MAST says she decided to do early action, “because I wanted to get my decisions back as early as possible, so that I have enough time to decide if the college that accepted me is best for me. I want to get my applications over with early.” Another senior at MAST shares similar motives. Napat says “So, that I have better chances to get accepted and to gain scholarship opportunities, honestly to just get it over with.”
College applications are a long, and time consuming process. It may be better for some students to do early action and better for others to do regular decision. The CAP advisor Ms. Delgado Ruiz shares the pros and cons of early action. “So early action plans are non-binding so students receive an earlier response to their applications, but do not have to commit to a college until the normal reply date. Now the important thing about that is, you get to know your school’s acceptances earlier. If your offers come in earlier in the year, there are many cons however, once you get accepted to more than one school which is the right fit for you.”
Early action ultimately offers an opportunity to finish applications earlier and send them in first. This offers an advantage since it’s a smaller pool of applications they are looking at. There is no rush into college applications but it seems that immediate action is the way to go
