On Tuesday, Harvard University President Dr. Claudine Gay announced that she will be stepping down from her position as president. Gay served for six months, which is the shortest term a president has served in Harvard’s history.

Gay’s resignation has been attributed to recent allegations over plagiarism, in addition to criticism following her testimony before Congress over Antisemitism on Harvard’s campus.

Shortly before Gay’s resignation was the resignation of the University of Pennsylvania’s president Elizabeth Magill, whom participated in the same testimony before Congress and faced similar criticism to Claudine Gay.

Claudine Gay was Harvard’s 30th president, and the first person of color to serve as president of Harvard. Currently, Harvard’s chief academic officer Alan Garber is serving as interim president.
