On Thursday, November 16, 2023, MAST Academy held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the new solar panels that were added to the top of the PE shelter, after having pitched the idea to Key Biscayne more than four years ago.

A 40,000-dollar grant from the village of Key Biscayne was given, which was about two-thirds of the total 63,110 dollars used for this project.  Now, MAST Academy keeps working and striving to become the first zero waste, zero energy school in Florida.

These solar panels help represent the young hard-working students of MAST Academy and the struggles they’ve faced to help keep the environment safe and help protect our planet.

These solar panels are expected to have enough power in the first year to offset 14.5 metric tons of carbon dioxide from the environment.
