Following the racist graffiti in the MAST Academy girls’ bathroom that was reported on Friday May 10, principal Dr. Cadian Collman-Perez issued a statement to The Beacon as follows:
“First, let me say that we are very disappointed that someone in our school community committed this despicable act. We have zero tolerance for this type of behavior and all students are aware as it has been previously communicated to the student body. The writing was done inside a restroom, and we have not been able to identify the culprit. Given that the individual is attending our school, we continue to work with the resources provided to us by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) to educate and inform the students. Additionally, the administrative team visited select classes to address the students and remind them of school-wide expectations, the Code of Student Conduct, and the impact of unacceptable and hurtful behaviors on others. We also continue to encourage our students to be upstanders and above all to be kind. ”
This incident follows the swastika drawn in a middle school classroom to which there was a meeting held Monday to address the issue.
