On Oct. 16, 2022, MAST Academy senior Enzo Fouquet won a $2,000 scholarship from S.H.I.N.E. Networking Inc.

Fouquet was nominated by Michele Drucker, Environmental Stewardship Chair at FLORIDA PTA and Green Champions leader.

“It was for a lot of the work I’ve done with composting, and establishing composting on [Key Biscayne] and creating a ‘zero waste culture’ and helping run a lot of the environmental programs at MAST, and maintaining gardens,” Fouquet said. “So it was a combination of all those things.”

S.H.I.N.E. Networking Inc. is a non-profit that awards educational scholarships to support and encourage young innovative leaders whose unique ideas offer solutions that make difference in our communities. These leaders are called S.H.I.N.E. Ambassadors.

This year’s S.H.I.N.E. Ambassadors were Fouquet and Coral Gables Senior High School junior Gabriela McGrath Moreira, who was recognized by S.H.I.N.E. for Environmental Sustainability initiatives in Miami-Dade County.

Fouquet has been working closely with MAST Academy’s Green Champions and other environmental activism initiatives for the past couple of years to better the world. He considers global warming and climate change to be the defining issue of his life and is a huge proponent of climate change regulation and reform. He was worked extremely hard over the last few years, both in local politics and in local environmental concerns.

“It felt very good to be acknowledged for the work that I’ve done. It’s nice,” Fouquet said after receiving the recognition. “And also, I’m not complaining; it’s $2,000 dollars!”

Fouquet plans to spend the money on university costs like application fees.
