Summer is coming, and that means students are getting ready to wear lighter clothes like t-shirts, shorts, and sandals. Many people like to shop for new clothes during this time, especially if last year’s clothes don’t fit or feel out of style. But how much money does it take to build a summer wardrobe? Some students buy just a few new things, while others spend more to get the latest styles. To find out what students are doing this year, we asked two freshmen at MAST Academy about their summer clothes and how much they spend.
Simon Santarelli is a freshman who said he spends around $250 on clothes for the summer. He said his most expensive item is his shorts. “My shorts are probably the most expensive because I look for quality,” he said. Simon explained that he likes to buy things that are made well so they can last longer. He doesn’t want to keep replacing them, so he’s okay spending more at the start. He focuses on comfort and durability, even if that means spending more money.
Simon Puyana, also a freshman, said he spends a little less—about $200. When asked about his most expensive item, he said, “I still wear hoodies in the summer, so probably that.” Even though summer is hot, Simon still wears hoodies, especially when it gets cooler at night or when he’s indoors in air conditioning. He said he doesn’t buy a lot of clothes, but he picks a few items he likes and wears often. For him, comfort matters more than how many items he has.
Both students spend between $200 and $250 on summer clothes. This shows that a summer wardrobe can be built without spending a huge amount of money. Most of their money goes toward one or two items that cost more, like shorts or hoodies, while the rest is spent on basics like t-shirts or shoes. Every student is different, but this range gives a good idea of what many people might expect to spend.
If you are shopping for summer clothes, you might want to plan to spend around $200. This amount can cover a few new pieces that match your style and can be worn in different ways. Picking clothes that are good quality and comfortable can help you get through the summer without needing to keep buying more. Planning ahead and buying only what you need can help you stay on budget and still look put together.
