Ms. Paisley’s sophomore students teamed up with DASH seniors on a field trip to The Miami Seaquarium on March 12th.
The goal of the field trip was for DASH seniors to get a better look at the aquarium both architecturally and in its mission so that they can reimagine it while maintaining the educational aspects offered by The Miami Seaquarium.
MAST sophomores got to tag along as ambassadors of Virginia Key and were available to answer questions about the interests of stakeholders involved.
“It was so nice to meet students from other schools and I really enjoyed collaborating with them” Sarah Mateu MAST 10th grader said of the field trip.
On the day, students got to privately tour The Miami Seaquarium which received a formal eviction notice by Miami-Dade County on April 21, 2024; as the business is more than 180,000 dollars behind on rent amid animal welfare concerns.
Despite the notice The Miami Seaquarium has attempted to continue operations leading to this DASH project in collaboration with MAST Academy.
“The Miami Seaquarium was a full circle moment for me having grown up going to the center every summer I was sad to find it so empty” said Norah Reno, MAST 10th grader, of the aquarium which has been in operation in Miami since 1955.
“That’s why I value this DASH initiative project; future generations deserve a chance to fall in love with marine sciences in a new unique way just as I did all those years ago.” Added Reno.
There will be a following story published when MAST sophomores help urge the DASH final projects.
