Paris has came out with a supposedly new outbreak to the media as the “Bedbug Infestation” this outbreak is taking place now in 2023. Although, Paris has always had a bedbug problem, this is the first time it has become such a threat to people around the world.
The bedbug epidemic can be explained from a rise in temperatures. The life cycle of a bedbug is accelerated in the heat. They reproduce faster and twice as often. Recently Paris’s temperature have rose 4.5 ° C, according to Jean-Michel Bérenger, an entomologist and cofounder of the National Institute for the Study and Fight Against Bedbugs in 2018.
Though the bedbug crisis is in Paris, it may spread soon.
Paris Fashion Week took place from Sep 27th until Oct 3, with A-list celebrities in attendance and high end designers such as Dior, Chanel and Versace. The high presence of celebrities, designers, and models at this event means that once Paris Fashion Week is over, attendees from around the world are going back home, taking the Parisian bed bugs with them.
A mass spread of bedbugs around the world can result in a rise in diseases, people getting sick and a plethora of other health complications that are unknown yet.
“I didn’t have any experience with bedbugs in that particular moment.” Jasmine Freire, manager to School Of Rock North Miami, stated.
Freire recently traveled to Paris and indicates that the infestation may be coming to an end.
