With thanksgiving break coming up everyone is excited as we get a glimpse
of all the holidays that everyone is looking forward to, but thanksgiving isn’t only
about the vacation and break from school. Thanksgiving is a holiday that
represents gratitude, family, and celebration. Many different family’s celebrate
thanksgiving in different was some more traditional some more obscure. Here at the
beacon, we will dive into how different family’s celebrate thanksgiving and how they
spend their break.
Everyone knows about the stereotypical thanksgiving. Family, friends, food,
and fun. Many people around the United States celebrate thanksgiving this way one
example being Sofia Zajdman. This year she’s heading to Tampa where her
grandmother lives to meet up with her cousins and family, she told the beacon how
her family plays board games regularly and her grandmother cooks traditional
Thanksgiving cuisine such as turkey, mash potatoes, and mac and cheese.
Thanksgiving is very important to her as she reunites with all her cousins and
spends a fun time with them and her family which is what thanksgiving is all about.
On the other hand, the beacon interviewed a student who doesn’t celebrate
thanksgiving how many people may expect, Juliana Alvarez, explained to the
beacon that every thanksgiving she takes a cruise with her family. She still eats the
foods normally eaten through thanksgiving. She says she prefers going on a cruise
for thanksgiving rather than staying home.
These are just 2 examples of how makos spent their thanksgiving, it really
shows you how many possibilities there can be on thanksgiving leaving room for
countless memories and traditions, but even though Thanksgiving comes in all
different shapes and sizes, there is one constant, Thanksgiving is a time to spend
with family regardless how you spend it.
