As the school year slows down and summer approaches, many high school students find themselves with a lot a time on their hands, which they don’t have much of during the school year. For teens who want to earn money, build experience, or simply stay productive, summer is the perfect chance to do so.
From traditional part-time jobs to self-employed jobs, there are several ways high school students can make money over the summer months.
Many kids get classic summer jobs, like such as working in retail, restaurants, or at local amusement parks. These jobs can provide a constant paycheck and teach important skills like time management, customer service, and teamwork.
Maddalena Vivonetto (9th) said, “I don’t have a job, but jobs I would get over the summer are grocery bagger, cashier, or retail.”
Kayah Hornek (10th) also said “I have a job, but some other jobs I would get during the summer is fast food worker, retail, or babysitter.”

Parents often need help during the summer, whether it’s for childcare while they work or pet care during vacations. Who better to do this than teenagers who want a simple and flexible job. Teenagers who are responsible and enjoy spending time with kids or animals can easily turn this into a regular source of income.
Leila Gasca (10th) said “I’ve considered getting a job in baby-sitting or dog walking because its really easy and I can pick whenever I work. Being able to pick my own schedule would give me the opportunity to have fun, spend time with family, and work.”
Doing additional chores for your parents around the house can get you extra cash over the summer. Kayah Hornek also says “I try to do chores around the house to get my money up. Its easy and I can pick which chores I want to do.” Some chores you could do is help mow the lawn, cleaning bathrooms, or washing cars.
