On September 12th, 2023 the annual MTV Viewer’s music awards took place in Prudential Center, New Jersey. This years VMAs were hosted by Nicki Minaj.
The VMAs, or The Viewers Music Choice Awards, is an American award show presented by the cable channel MTV to honor the best in music video medium and to also honor multiple artists on their successful music over the past year. The VMAs do not just present the music of the year, but also music shows, photo shoots, and performances from popular celebrities in general.
A number of our favorite music artists and celebrities showed up at the VMAs this year such as Ice Spice, Cardi B, Meghan Thee Stallion, Fall Out Boy, Foo Fighters and more. Some of the award categories for this year were Song of the year, Best Rock Performance, and Best Push Performance.
Many iconic events such as Shakira crowdsurfing, Olivia Rodrigro fooling everyone when her set “fell apart” and casually changing her outfit in the middle of it, and Nicki Minaj hosting the VMAs once again in an iconic dress and having an amazing performance overall happened this year at the award show, adding to the overall excitement in the atmosphere.
However, although one to remember, the event show had its issues.
The changing time between performances was too long for the fans and viewers to enjoy. This issue was brought up multiple times and was labeled as “unprofessional”.
Another issue noted was Taylor Swift’s wins. Swift won 9 different awards, most for her recent song “Anti-Hero”. This has given the viewers very mixed reactions, both negative and positive.
